Children with one or multiple special health care needs, such as autism, cerebral palsy, seizure disorder, ADHD, asthma and others, are at risk of slipping through the system with regards to their oral health care. Often, parents spend so much time addressing their child’s special health care needs that the first visit to the dentist occurs only after a problem arises. Sometimes dental visits are delayed because parents aren’t sure which dentists are comfortable treating their child. Remember that children’s oral health is a key part to the maintenance of their general health and starting early is always better.
